Our recent paper published in Nature Immunology, research spear-headed by Dr. Juan Inclan-Rico and Dr. De’Broski Herbert sheds light on how a parasitic worm:
Schistosoma mansoni, can sneak into the human body by evading this very defense mechanism, bypassing the itch response entirely. While there are prophylactic therapeutics for those who may encounter S. mansoni, options for treating someone who has unknowingly been exposed are relatively scant, and these research findings pave the way for addressing this concern.
Discovering new information in Immunology & Neuroscience by following how parasitic helminths interact with their hosts. The members of this laboratory each bring a unique and valuable perspective on how the world can become a better place through biomedical research.
